Election 2008

Now that the 2008 elections are finally over and the people have spoken. I would like to congratulate President elect Obama and wish him all the very best as he leads this nation during these challenging times ahead. My only hope is that he will be able bring this country back together as Americans, regardless of political party and ethnic ethnic background. After the election I must say it was so nice to see everyone in good spirits and happy with the finally results. I am looking forward to working with the democratic majority in the next Congress.

Greetings from the Summer

Notes from my Travels throughout Maryland.

During the month of Oct. I have been taking some time to travel the state of Maryland in order to gain a better understand of the economic impact on the state and hear the concerns of Marylanders. The greatest indicator I have seen is the rise in the number of stores going out of business and a greater number of for rent signs in the cities and towns. I was very surprised over the weekend when I learned that a department store at Friendship Heights "Linen and Things' was closing its doors soon. To be honest with you, never in my life time have I seen the U.S. take such turn for the worse in such a short time. I am deeply concerned about the direction of things in this country. As I see one of the greatest causes of the down fail in the U.S. is "Personal Greed" It is important for us as a nation to work together and be united in spirit, were "duty, honor, country come first'. As well as we must put aside our partisan differences for the good of the country.

I was raised to believe that all of us have a civic duty to serve there country. Your comments and concerns are always welcome. It would be a pleasure to hear from you.

My thoughts, On the U.S. Economic Crises!

As you know, the U.S. economic crises and the Presidential elections has dominated most of the news the past few weeks. I must say we have reached a low point, when our political parties spend so much time blaming the other party for the economic problems. I am of the opinion that both political parties are at fault for not acting sooner. This is a good example of how dysfunctional Congress has become over the years. The greatest fault I find with Congress is that it is reactionary in there governing process. I would say if the Democratic party was so great with economic policy then they should have tried to prevent the economic crash. After all it was the Democratic party that had the governing majority in Congress. After the Democratic party spent weeks blaming the Republicans, Congress finally passed an economic policy package to bail out for the banks. The one thing we have learned out of this economic down fall, is how interdependent the U.S. and Europe have become now. If one were to fail then the other would fail as well.

With the American people becoming disillusioned our political leaders should be focused on restoring the peoples confidence back in our democratic institutions.

Being a proud descendant of Lord Baltimore my hope is to continue the principle vision of a democratic society that come from our founding Fathers. My Campaign is about enhancing Americas Democratic process, making our government work more efficiently. I have set out a bold progressive agenda that will bring about the change that is needed today. Hill News Briefing

House Ethics Committee: I am pleased to say that the U.S. House has now agreed on establishing an independent House Committee on Ethics. This legislation calls for a committee appointed by Democratic and Republican leaders, were the committee members would be evenly divided between the two political parties. Although this bill is not perfect it is a step in the right direction. On the campaign trail I have been spoken of the need to establish an independent Ethics Committee, regarding the conduct of members and special interest groups. Quality Democracy

My priority is to make Congress more accountable, transparent, and open by calling for an independent ethics committee for the Standards of Public Life. When elected I will propose a Federal Accountability Act that will establish a clear set of guidelines, standards and rules that will reform our present outdated democratic process. The purpose of this measure is to help strengthen accountability and increase transparency and oversight in government operations. This comprehensive action plan includes the Federal Accountability Act as well as supporting policy and other non-legislative measures. By utilizing the latest technology we could invite more citizens to be active participants in the decision making process, creating a governing process that is more transparent, open, and accountable---thus restoring the confidence of the people.

Affordable Health Care Coverage

The United States spends more on health care than any other country in the world, but many citizens have to go without medical treatment because of the rising costs. When elected I will work aggressively at finding innovate solutions to make health care more affordable with expanded coverage for prevention of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and cancer. Possible solutions could include tax break incentives to doctors that provide medical services to those without health care coverage and by creating more flexible incentives for states to tailor their own programs such as the “Montgomery Cares” health care coalition.

Foreign Policy

The United States had always been respected for upholding the principles of democracy. Never before in this country’s history has our image abroad been at such a low point. I will work to improve America’s relations with our allies by forming an inter-parliamentary working group with Parliamentarians abroad, which would improve our dialogue and act as an early warning sign in conflict and exchange of best practices in good governance. I will also work at creating more public diplomacy programs such a initiating a public diplomacy corp.

Government Spending

I will strive to find innovative solutions that will save money and improve the quality of life for the people of Maryland, such as improving public transportation, affordable college education, and improved access to health services. Most importantly I support less government, meaning less red tape, and being wise stewards of your tax dollars. By cutting wasteful government spending, we can put your tax dollars back to work for you.

My Constituency District 8

Maryland Dist 8 covers most of Montgomery County with a population of 662,000 and an annual average household income of around $74,000. Montgomery County is also home to National Institutes of Health and Bethesda Navel Medical Centre. The county also has one of the highest percentages of PhD in the country.
